I have never been so - what am I feeling? - scared? I don’t know how long this guy has been under the steel girder, but he is stiff and he is stinky. Stinky is an understatement at best, and I’ve definitely smelled a lot worse, but it’s been awhile since then. He has the crucifix around his neck still, so maybe this will be easy considering the first broken down warehouse we stumbled into was the right one. Now to wait for the train.

The warehouse is ready to collapse. It wouldn’t take more than a sneeze to knock this place down on my account. There are crates, dust, and scrap everywhere, and probably no shortage of rats hiding behind it all. Every thing is grey, and the only light is coming in through the windows from the overcast sky. The guy I’m traveling with looks like he might piss himself, he can’t take his eyes off the dead guy. Dead guy... What was his name? Tater? What a dumb name.

The silence between my companion and me is strained. He looks like he wants to say something, anything, just to get away from thinking and being near the stiff. The silence is helpful at least, I notice the shouting coming from outside, though I can barely hear it, but it is loud and clear to him because he is white as a ghost and looking around like he wants to hide. Or maybe he’s thinking about a real plan. I don’t know, I can’t make this guy out even after all this time. The shattered windows aren’t that high, maybe these crates will be stable enough to get up there. I grab the crucifix and stuff it in my pocket.

“We should see what that is,” and I point up to the windows. He nods and regains some of himself before I start to climb up the crates. These crates aren’t as stable as they look, and I lose my footing as they rock and creak under my weight. I won’t fall, I won’t fall, I won’t fall. I hit the ground but manage to slow myself during the fall. I think the only bruises are to my ego. My partner bounds passed me, and I’m shocked at his ability. Maybe he has some hidden talents behind that pretty face of his. I guess he did handle Mac the Knife pretty well, but I could’ve gotten the information myself if I wanted to. I have ways.

The crates sway unsteadily under his feet, but he doesn’t seem to notice in the least, and he peers through the window to see where the noise is coming from. I make my way crate to crate a lot more slowly than my first attempt, but I finally make it to the top next to my companion. Looking out, I don’t see anything, was this even the direction the noise was coming from?

“So... nothing then?” I look back into the warehouse. The dull grey doesn’t give any clues as to where or what we might be dealing with. I descend our makeshift mountain and head back toward Tater. I stare at his lifeless body wondering if we should just leave it here, but quickly dismiss those thoughts as the shouting returns followed by what sounds like a dog barking, and then becomes screaming for help. Confused, I scan the area looking for some thing, anything, that can be used as a weapon. My partner bounded down the crates next to me just as I bend over Tater. I grab his arm and pull.

“What the fuck are you doing?!” My companion panics. I tug and pull and we can hear the muscles stretching and ripping as I tear off this dead arm. But it’s good to see that maybe this will make me look crazy enough to be left alone by whatever is out there. “Seriously, WHAT are you doing?!”

“Hopefully, saving our lives,” I say calmly and run towards the door of the warehouse.

He follows me and my blood trail and we peer out the door. The shouting has stopped, and I think I know why. A large dog is feasting on some guy in the middle of the yard. There is a wooden bat laying next to them, and now I’m determined to get it.

My partner grabs the back of my shirt, “What are you doing now!?”

“You need to relax, man.”

“No, being relaxed is for when you are trying to persuade an enemy. You are about to go up to an actual man eating dog, aren’t you?” I can hear the anxiety in his voice, but I don’t blame him. Honestly, I’d normally be the same way, but I forgot that we had to catch the train that should be coming through, and I want to have a weapon just in case. And then I heard the train horn.
